Adventures in Thrifting

Yesterday my friend Crystal and I went thrifting! But first I did a little "dumpster diving" by my apartment and found this beauty. It needed a screw tightened, some Hostess Ding Dong removal and a scrub down. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it yet, but it was free and we needed end tables!

After my dumpster diving, Crystal and I headed to the new Good Will outlet in downtown St. Louis. The store is filled with tons of big blue bins full of stuff. The bins get changed out several times a day and the large items get changed daily. You have to majorly dig through the bins which got a little annoying, but once our cart started filling up we didn't mind too much. And the prices are amazing! So much better than the normal Good Will stores.
I forgot to take a picture of my stuffed to the brim car or our cart, but here are some pictures of my finds. Tons of clothes and a pair of shoes for Plankton, a pizza paddle, fruit basket(to be painted), lamp, cornucopia, baby changing pad, a new pan for my counter top pizza cooker, something to organize my crafting ribbon, a plate and a small vase to make a homemade cake stand.

This beauty was a whopping $3. Picture it painted rustic yellow in a field for baby pictures.

My goal of the day was to find an old wooden highchair. Mission accomplished!!!!!! I cleaned it last night and plan on sanding it this week.

Picture it painted this color blue! Ah! I love!

Crystal made a hall too! I really wish I would have gotten a picture of her loot, but her goal was to find some vintage suitcases and she accomplished it! Can't wait to go back to the outlet for more fun!!!

Feraro's Jersey Style Pizza

Thanks for playing my picture game. Every person picked the picture I like best! I'm going to get it blown up and framed soon!

Last week my mom, sister and I went for some Jersey style pizza at Feraro's. I forgot to take a picture of the restaurant. Its a very small place with maybe only 10 tables inside. There is a patio that seats quite a bit and during the window the put a tent over the patio and have heaters out. I love me some pizza by the slice and this place has the best St. Louis has to offer.

Our garlic knots.... AMAZING.

My slice of cheese. Normally I am so full off of the one slice and the garlic knots, but being preggo and all I could have eaten 3 more slices of pie.

 Group shot..

The tables are all covered in paper so you can color while you wait for your food.

My sister, Libby, drew a Plankton for our sweet baby Plankton.

If you're in the St. Louis area and are craving some pizza by the slice head to Feraro's. You will heart it!

Tell Me Your Fav....

Maternity session #1
Yes there is going to be more than one session. I don't do anything half way. Remember the gender reveal cupcakes?!?!?!? We definitely went all out for our big reveal so why not go all out on maternity pictures.

Which one is your favorite?

Felt Alphabet Magnets!

Lately I've been seeing handmade felt alphabet magnets everywhere! I was looking for something to make to practice my newly learned ability to hand sew. These were perfect for that!  I started by picking the perfect font on one of my Cricut cartridges. I cut out one of every letter and number on my Cricut. I then traced them onto felt. I traced one the correct way and one backwards. That way the marker isn't visible on the finished magnet. I cut them out using very sharp scissors and started to sew them together. If the letter or number has a circle in the middle such as an R or a 9 then start on the inside first. Stuff as you go with fiber fill. I used a pair of needle nose pliers to make stuffing a little easier. You don't want to stuff too full because the seams will start to gap open. As you are sewing and stuffing you'll want to place a magnet in a position that will allow the magnet to hang properly. Make sure the magnet is strong enough to hold through the felt! After you finishing stitching just tie a knot and the magnet is ready to go!

Cutting the letters out.

All the freshly cut letters.

An example of how to trace the letter onto the felt.

And done!

They aren't perfect, but I don't think S will mind :-)

Happy Monday!

How was everyone's weekend? Mine was super busy just like the rest of last week. Last week I had to work Mon-Fri. Monday night Chad's mom came over for dinner. Tuesday I had to clean our apartment top to bottom. Wednesday I had my cousin's Confirmation to attend. Thursday I had a picnic lunch to make. Friday I had to RELAX!!!!! Saturday I woke up at 5 a.m. and literally was busy alllllll day. My friend Kristin and I attended a town wide yard sale about 40 minutes away from where I live. Its the coolest yard sale ever. They pass out maps at city hall where you can also buy breakfast and complimentary coffee is served. I packed us a picnic lunch in a cooler to avoid having to wait in long lines when lunch is being served at city hall. We shopped the deals from 7a.m. until about 12:30. Plankton got tons of new baby stuff!!!! After we started to head home we decided to stop and a new gently used children's clothing store that also sells handmade goods too. Love it there!!!!!!! After all the shopping I had Chad's family's annual Mother's Day bbq. Man was I tired that night!!!!!! Sunday Chad went fishing for awhile then we went to lunch and I came home and did about 8 loads of laundry. Now its Monday again and I'm still exhausted.

My favorite girl in her pretty dress.
Our picnic Saturday. I got 4 of these freezer jars for $3 in the canning isle at the store. They are perfect for picnics!
I also put chicken salad in a jar and kept the bread separate so it didn't become soggy.
 Hello 21 weeks!!!!!

I am in love with little boy clothes. How cute is this onsie that I got for $1?!?!?!
 I got 2 tie-dyed onsies for $2!
This is one of the handmade ones I bought. I love it! The owl pattern matches Plankton's nursery plans and it matches his infant car seat.
Hope you all have a good, fast week! XO! - Jess

Lately....... (Warning Picture Heavy!)

Things have been crazy busy lately. And as usual I keep forgetting to blog. Here's what I've been up to......

I was part of a 3 family yard sale yesterday. I was hoping to walk away with an extra $100, but I actually doubled that. It was very hard work to get ready for the sale, but worth it. Everything that didn't sell got dropped off at our local Salvation Army.

We picked out our infant seat/travel system pattern. I am so in love with these little blue owls. We actually bought this before we knew the baby was going to be a boy. Even though its blue, I think it would be precious for a little girl sometime in the distant future.

I started my new craft project. Here is a sneak peek.

I caught my first fish!!!! Its a Walleye.

Chad and I went mushroom hunting. Morel mushrooms taste sooooooooo delish!

Our sweet little baby boy has gotten so many gifts already!!!!
I am in love with the stud muffin onsie my mom bought for him!
This romper is precious! A gift from Chad's cousin Crystal.

We have known the baby is a boy for less than a week and he already owns all this! This is what 52 pieces of clothing looks like. I can't believe he already has that much. Its all lots of different sizes so some of it won't fit for a year or so after birth.

This hat makes me swoon! Oh yeah and he already owns 5 hats.

I've been lucky enough to spend lots of time with my favorite girl.

Chocolate face modeling her new headband I made.

You know what sucks? Going to a wine tasting and not being able to drink. This wine tasting also had beer that was available for taste along with a whiskey booth. Shot to the heart.
Other things that have been going on....
1) Woke up bright and early to watch the royal wedding with my mom. Amazing! Kate is just plain gorgeous. I love that she kept her dress somewhat simple. I kind of expected it to be a little over the top, but it was perfect! Instead of celebrating with tea and scones we chose homemade pizza and some fried zuchinni. Delish!
2) Chad and I registered today. I was super excited for it, but it was a huge pain in the ass. We got through the nursery part of the registering when our gun died so we had to start over. The store gave us a guide to go by, but some of it seemed pretty excessive. And man is baby stuff expensive!!!!! We both hated putting so much expensive stuff on our registry because it just seems greedy. The store lets you buy anything left on the registry after your shower with 10% off so we wanted the option of buying later at discount. My favorite part of today was when we found  our crib!! Man is it precious! And at $179 it is definitely a steal compared to most that cost over $500. The crib we chose also converts into a toddler bed and later you can use the back piece as a full size headboard. All in all it took us just over 2 hours to finish at the store. We still had more to pick, but I was DONE and crabby.

Last picture.... me at 20 weeks. We're half way there!!!!!!!
